Ladybug Baby Shoes Makeover: Video Tutorial

These worn down baby girl shoes were just begging for a makeover! And how CUTE these ladybug baby shoes came out!

I’m so in love with them.

The shoes were given to me in a bag of hand-me-downs when my daughter was just born. Clearly, the shoes were just too worn down to remain as-is. (Gosh, I hope the woman who gave them to me doesn’t mind :/ )

I didn’t take pictures of the makeover process but instead decided to try something a little different. I made a video! Please let me know what you think of the video and if you like this format. I’m considering doing more of my tutorials in video format if people enjoy it. Or maybe I should just stick to what I know haha!

And there you have it, Ladybug baby shoes, as simple as that. This makeover is a perfect one-day project if you’re looking for something quick to do. Honestly, the part that took the longest was waiting between coats for everything to dry.

Materials needed for your ladybug baby shoes.

The video tutorial doesn’t explain the materials I used so I will give a list here.

• Soapy water and scrub (just to clean your surface really well so the paint will stick)
• Acrylic Paint
• Masking Tape
• Black felt
• Tacky Glue
• Waterproof craft Polyurethane

There are better products out there than what I used. For instance, Shoe paint or leather paint would probably hold up better. These were the materials I had on hand, but also… they’re for a baby. I don’t think she’ll mind.

Some craft sealants are not waterproof. Many would wash right off if used on footwear. A permanent polyurethane or shoe-specific sealant is your best bet. Such as THIS one here.

Also, I can’t stress enough, clean them very thoroughly! If there’s dirt or any of the previous finish on there the paint won’t stick well. As you can see in the pictures, these shoes had some sort of shiny/glitter coating on them originally and I scrubbed off what little of that was left. Paint definitely won’t stick as well to shiny or slick surfaces. If they ARE shiny or slick even after a lot of scrubbing, you may need to use a primer before painting them.

Look how cute they are!!! Obviously, Jane loved them. And she was a perfect little model at the park. This photoshoot was super fun with her, this playground near our house is her favorite place ever!
